Why Go To Confession?

All of us have a choice of whether or not to spend eternity with God.
Unfortunately, many people choose to reject God through mortal sin, which is the act of committing grave evil with full knowledge and freedom. Mortal sin leads to eternal separation from God in Hell.
Fortunately, Christ offers us His grace through the Sacrament of Reconciliation (or Confession).
It's normal for people to get nervous about going to Confession. But don't be afraid! As St. Thérèse the Little Flower said, "How can I fear a God who is nothing but mercy and love?" In Confession, the priest acts in the Person of Christ to share the mercy of love of Christ.
We have a choice: will we receive God's forgiveness and healing?
It is helpful to go to Confession even if we have only committed lesser or "venial" sins that have harmed (but not destroyed) our relationship with God.
Confession gives us the grace to stay close to Christ, avoid serious sin, and have eternal joy with God in Heaven.
John
