St. Jude and St. Joseph

Regular price $39.99 $0.00

This 3/4 inch sterling silver medal features St Jude holding a book, representing his book in the Bible, and an ax or halberd, which was the instrument of his martyrdom. The reverse shows St Joseph holding the Christ Child. The inscriptions are in Latin saying “St Jude / St Joseph Pray For Us”.

Tradition holds that St Jude was the son of Cleophas, and early Christian martyr, and Mary, Cleophas’ wife, who stood at the foot of the cross with the Virgin Mary. He was one of the first apostles and a relative of Jesus. The Epistle of Jude in the New Testament was written by him. His association with lost causes stems from confusion of his name, Jude, with that of Judas the betrayer of Jesus. The mix-up meant that devotion to St Jude was considered a lost cause, but he has become on of the most popular Catholic saints.

The was cast from an antique medal by Rosa Mystica Medals, so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
